Welcome!
The European Society of Women in Theological Studies (ESWTR) is a network of scholars in theology, religious studies, and related fields. Every two years, an international conference is held on a current feminist theological topic. In between, scholars meet at regional and national conferences, as well as to continue their work in thematic and specific working groups. At its general assemblies in Crete in 2015 and Vienna in 2017, the ESWTR resolved to strengthen its interfaith approach at all levels. The ESWTR publishes the European Society of Women in Theological Studies Yearbook and the ESWTR Religion Studies series annually.
ESWTR International Conference
August 18-22, 2027 in Ávila, Spain
Women and Prophecy
Mysticism as a transformative action in the world

From an open and engaged perspective in this conflict-ridden world, we seek to foster a dialogue between contemplation and action. To this end, we bring together mystics (mysticism understood as a transformative experience of encounter, wonder, and joy with the other) and prophets (prophecy as a proclaimed and confirmed word) of our time, as well as contemporary women, so that the past and present may help us face the challenges of the future. The aim is to reveal the keys that allow us to shape the pluralistic reality of our time in social spaces of coexistence, recognition, and inclusion.
The congress will take place in the exclusive setting of the University of Mysticism of Ávila CITeS – Mystic University, where accommodation is available.
The detailed program, registration link and call for applications will be published later on this website.
The conference will be given in Spanish, English, and German.
With this appeal, we request support and donations to organize this international congress with the utmost care and in a spirit of ecumenical and interreligious fraternity, as we have no other external funding. The names and logos of the collaborating institutions will be published in the program, on the association's international website, and on the social media channels of the Spanish Association of Theologians (Teología/Asociación de Teólogas Españolas) and other related platforms before, during, and after the congress.
